Central Interceptor is making their heavy vehicle fleet greener with the arrival of new electric tipper trucks

Watercare's Central Interceptor project is constantly looking for new ways to improve sustainability in all aspects of construction.

We’re thrilled to officially launch three new electric tipper trucks for our Central Interceptor wastewater project in New Zealand!

These e-trucks may look like any ordinary truck, but they consume zero diesel and produce 79% less CO2 emissions. The trucks have been transporting excavated material from tunnel and shaft sites to Puketutu Island and they’ll continue to do so over the next four years.

Each e-truck can transport up to 13 tonnes of material and travel up to 200km. They're powered by a single battery that takes 90 minutes to charge and can be swapped in around 10 minutes.

And, if you're living alongside one of our 16 construction sites you'll benefit hugely from having almost silent truck movements. Being a good neighbour is very important to us.
