Ghella, as part of the temporary group made of Pizzarotti, Itinera, SALCEF, Eds Infrastructures, Geodata Engineering, Integra and Rina Consulting, has been awarded by the Italian Railway Network (Gruppo FS) the contract for the design and build of the Frasso Telesino-Telese. This is the first of the two functional lots of the Frasso Telesino- Vitulano route. The contract value is about 230 million euros.
The work will cover the new railway headquarters including: related civil works, railways, electric traction and substations for the supply of trains.
The new Napoli-Bari railway line, with an estimated total cost of 6.2 Billion Euros, is an integral part of the European rail Corridor TEN-T Scandinavia-Mediterranean. The Project has recently obtained the highest certification level for sustainability, Envision Platinum, for the Frasso Telesino- San Lorenzo Maggiore section, making it the World’s first railway project to achieve it.
The Contract is the second lot of the Napoli-Bari railway line in which Ghella is involved; the first one is the lot stretching from Cancello to Frasso Telesino, which consists in the widening of the historical line from the existing station of Frasso Telesino towards Naples.
Once complete, the travel time between Napoli and Bari will be decreased of 1h40m, taking only 2h.
The Napoli - Bari transversal axe has a key role in the development of southern Italy: it will allow to reconnect two areas that alone reach more than 40% of the entire market production of Southern Italy. The new line will also drastically decrease CO2 emissions as well as transfer, within 2030, 30% of the mercantile transport from roads to trains reaching 50% by 2050.
