World Water Day 2023

It's World Water Day 2023! Responsible use of water and reduction of project reliance on potable water are important elements of Ghella’s ESG strategy and policies. In addition, this year's theme reminds us that access to clean water and sanitation is a basic human need that is still a major challenge for many communities around the world. Clean water and sanitation are also valuable resources that sustain our ecosystems and economies.

Watercare’s $1.2b Central Interceptor project in New Zealand, built by Ghella Abergeldie JV, is designed to improve aging wastewater and stormwater infrastructure in older central Auckland suburbs. The giant underground tunnel will convey flows to Māngere Wastewater Treatment Plant for processing, thereby significantly reducing the amount of wet-weather overflows into local streams and harbours.
